Ohana Beach Café and Events is a quaint, eclectic and bustling café, situated right on the sea in picturesque Kalk Bay. It is a family-friendly, dog-friendly, everyone-friendly space. The name means “family”, which is intentional, meaning everyone is welcome!
We are an owner-run and managed Café, offering pastries, all-day breakfasts, fabulous cakes and delicious lunches.
Everything is baked and made on the premises.
Violet Chigwida and Janis Merand are the co-owners. Violet specialises in cakes and breads (we make our own with our own sourdough).
Violet also runs the floor, offering a warm welcome to everyone who visits.
Janis has years of experience in the food industry, specialising in outside catering (which Ohana offers as well) and brings her knowledge of flavour and passion for excellence to the space.
Janis and Violet believe that work must be joy-filled and this spirit is to be felt throughout Ohana.
We use quality ingredients, sourcing local, fresh and organic produce wherever possible.
Our meals are flavour-driven, ranging from our legendary Ohana buns, to our sensational salmon benny made with top-quality Norwegian salmon, to our famous Ohana burger with patties and sauces made in-house, to our seafood laksa – a Malaysian-inspired spiced broth with local fish. A recent customer who was from Indonesia said this meal took her “back home”.
